Christian Aid

Christian Aid has proudly walked alongside OfERR and Sri Lankan refugees for well over 25 years. In 2004 following the devastating Tsunami, I had the pleasure of working with OfERR, the refugees and returnees in providing humanitarian relief to those affected by the Tsunami in Sri Lanka and India. In subsequent years our collaboration with OfERR expanded to working with the European Commission Humanitarian Office on a no of key humanitarian and protection projects in the 110 refugees spread across Tamil Nadu, India. What is thoroughly commendable about OfERR is that is an organization of refugees built with strong values and run by the refugees, it is the genuine voice of Sri Lankan refugees and a model of how refugees themselves around the world should and can be empowered to manage, support, decide and advocate for themselves with the appropriate support from NGOs, Governments and the international community. As their leader Mr Chandrahasan so calmly and assuredly affirms the work of OfERR will only be complete once all Sri Lankan refugees return safely to their homeland – Christian Aid shares this vision, aspiration and hopes that it will be realised in the not so distant future.
